And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified. (Acts 20:32 KJV)
The above scripture were some of the final words the Apostle Paul spoke to the elders in Ephesus during his Missionary Journeys. He was leaving them and it probably was the last time they did see his face – (And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more. (Acts 20:25 KJV)). So what were the final words this great Apostle spoke to God’s people? He said, I commend you to God and to the word of his grace, he said these two will build you up and hand you over your inheritance.
As a Christian living in a world the bible tells us that our faith must be tested with temptations, trails, challenges, problems and wiles of the enemy hence the Apostle says, this is how to overcome; through the word of God and through the Spirit of God. To live successfully in this world as a Christian, you must yield yourself to the word of God. You must yield yourself to the Spirit of God. How?
Firstly, through studying and meditating on the word of God. The word says it is able to make you wise unto Salvation as well as help you deal wisely in the affairs of life. By studying and meditation, you can learn how to get a hold of the promises and blessings of the gospel of Christ. Make this a daily habit, give yourself to the ministry of the word of God. Allow it to raise you up like the Apostle Paul said and it begins by you desiring the sincere milk of the word that you may grow. Make it daily, make it habitual. Set out a time of the day where you meet with the word of God daily, the bible says that the word of God created all things- (John 1:1-10). If the word created all things, that word is still creating everything today.
The other thing the Apostle commended us to is to God himself. He says, as a believer daily, offer yourself, your words, your thoughts, your decisions to God. How do you do this? By fellowshipping with him daily in prayers. You cannot afford to be a Christian who does not have a disciplined and habitual prayer lifestyle. If you want to overcome the challenges of life, you must give yourself to prayer. Have a strictly heeded prayer lifestyle. In prayers we commune with God, we fellowship with him. He can talk with us as well as we with him. Don’t live your life as a Christian without the guidance and direction of God. He seeks to guide you but you must let him first.
Daily if you heed this two simple but very important factors, they will make you that you are neither unfruitful nor barren in your love and Follower-ship of Jesus Christ.
